Ostomy Clothes Shopping

It doesn't matter who you are it is most likely that you will be wearing clothes the vast majority of the time.  Well, there are some colonies that are totally against it, but for most of us, we like to be clothed.  This is a subject of contention for many people in that lots of individuals love shopping for clothing and many hate the mere mention of it.  I am in the latter myself as I am not a big fan of shopping at all.  Really there is nothing worse than the thought of shopping for jeans.  The idea of looking at myself in a mirror and looking terrible in a bad pair is simply not fun.  I don't like it, but it is a necessity in my life at least once every few years.  And in that light, many of us need to do shopping more frequently and it gets even more complicated if you are shopping with a stoma in mind.  So how did I go from a terrible judge of fashion to looking pretty decent even with my ostomybag?  Well, the truth is that the credit has to go to my wife, but a lot of the ostomy looking tips came from me. So I want to go over my journey of how I found out how to find the tips and tricks of the concealed looking trade.

The truth is my ostomy wardrobe came from my habit of always concealed carrying on a daily basis.  That means I was used to the idea of always hiding an item that is usually 1.5 inches thick on a daily basis on my hip.  So the idea of simply sliding that up a few inches to my abdomen was not all that crazy of a thought.  I don't like to print when I am carrying so I knew that this concept would be very similar.  Now they don't exactly make holsters for an ostomy bag, but they really kinda do.  For me, the first thought as the belly band holster and it all started to make sense to me. I knew that the two items were going to be rather similar and that I was going to be able to conceal my bag and not have to worry about it just like I had become proficient at hiding my concealed carry.  So for me, I started with that mindset.  But knowing that I didn't really know much about my stoma I searched all the places I could.

You would think I would go directly to people, but my personalty went straight for the internet.  I decided to search the crazy world of the world wide web.  I found a ton of articles on how women and men could hide their ostomy bag and use clothing to help it blend in.  This was an incredible thing and first of all vertical stripes are the way to go if you are heading in that direction!  But what I enjoyed more than online forums was the actual pictures and videos of people living life with a stoma.

This meant that social media was my favorite spot to learn new things.  I would highly suggest following Youtube Channels or Instagram people for a consistent flow of tips and ideas.  I hope my journey helps you in yours!
